At their annual meeting on June 19, 2010, the ASPIRA of Florida, Inc., Board of Directors voted unanimously to appoint Aymet Chaples as Interim President/CEO. The decision came on the heels of the passing away of CEO Raul A. Martinez, who had led the organization for 25 years, and was based on the desire to maintain a smooth continuity of operations.Ms. Chaples has a BA from St. Thomas University and a Master's Degree from Carlos Albizu University (both in Psychology). Aymet, as she is affectionately known throughout the agency, began her career at ASPIRA in 1989, developing community resources and providing educational support services to youth and families in Hialeah, as a Leadership Development Counselor. In 1993, she was promoted to Director of Student Services for ASPIRA's first charter school and rose to the position of Accolade South Middle School Director in 1996.
In 1999, Raul's confidence in Aymet's leadership abilities, led him to appoint Aymet as Vice President of Operations and later Chief Operations Officer, placing her at the helm of guiding agency expansion and development. It is this same confidence that the Board has exhibited in appointing Aymet to lead the agency into the future.
