ASPIRA Pays Tribute To El Gran Combo

Happy Anniversary!

concertgroup-webOn Friday, November 5, 2010, ASPIRA of Florida joined many of Latin music's biggest stars as they gathered together to pay tribute to the legendary musical group, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.

This Grammy winning music orchestra has put together over 40 albums and is considered the epitome of the Salsa music genre.

In celebration of El Gran Combo's 50th anniversary, the four and half hour concert featured performances by renowned artists such as Sergio Vargas, Elvis Crespo, Victor Manuelle, Bachata Heightz, N'Klave, Vanelis, Latin Thing and Ivan La Voz.

ASPIRA of Florida and La Idea Productions teamed up to co-host the sold-out event which was attended by over 4000 people at the James L. Knight Center.

It was a night of commemoration for more than just El Gran Combo, however.

Also honored at the concert was musical celebrity Sergio Vargas, who celebrated the 25 year anniversary of his career as an artist.

Joining in the celebration was popular broadcast personality Jesus "Chu" Diaz of El Zol 95.7, who received an award for his ten years of dedication to the station.

"ASPIRA was honored to partake in such a special event where so many music legends were all gathered together on the same stage to celebrate musical legacy and achievement," said George Cabrera, Chief Financial Officer of ASPIRA of Fl.

"We hope to be a part of many more nights like these," Cabrera added.
