AT&T Awards the ASPIRA Association $50,000 Through Univision's "Mira Quien Baila" TV Show

Actor and singer Vadhir Derbez may have been named the champion of Univision's television dance competition "¡Mira Quien Baila!" (Look Who's Dancing!), but the true winner is the ASPIRA organization, which received a $50,000 donation on behalf of AT&T, corporate sponsor of the TV show.

The dance contest presented ten of the most loved Hispanic celebrities as they competed to win a grand prize to donate to the charity of their choice. "¡Mira Quien Baila!" aired every Sunday at 8 p.m. ET and allowed viewers to support the contestants by letting them vote to keep their favorite celebrities in the competition. The contestants were also judged and critiqued by panelists every week.

Derbez, chosen for his talents and appeal, was crowned the winner of the competition on November 21, 2010, during the season finale. In attendance at the final show were several ASPIRA representatives, including Executive Vice President of the ASPIRA Association, John Villamil, Interim President/CEO of ASPIRA of Florida, Aymet Chaples, and a group of students from the ASPIRA of Florida associate.

Although every celebrity's chosen organization received a donation, only ASPIRA was given the $50,000 prize, thanks to Derbez's dedication to the education of Hispanic youth, which led him to select ASPIRA as his charity of choice.

ASPIRA is a nonprofit organization which serves to develop leadership skills and educational empowerment in Hispanic youth through several programs and charter schools. These programs are designed to set children on the path towards college, as well as to help them acquire the skills needed to contribute to the community.
