ASPIRA of Florida is excited to have over 500,000 visitors to its website! This benchmark number of a half a million, recently reached this month, reflects the effort that our organization has put forth in bringing new and engaging content to our readers. At the beginning of 2014, our website went through a redesign and a major migration overhaul allowing it to be more user-friendly with some exciting new features. Through this upgrade and substantive growth in website readership, our connections have gone far beyond our community. Our ultimate goal is to keep the ASPIRA family informed, while spreading our mission beyond our organizational boundaries. As IT continues to evolve, we will keep you abreast of new activities that take place at ASPIRA.

American Sabor 2014

History Miami

Miami , Florida 33130
Aug 6, 2014 - Oct 26, 2014

Ford Motor Company Fund is proud to sponsor the exhibition "American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music." The event will be held at History Miami, the premier cultural institution committed to gathering, preserving and celebrating Miami’s history through exhibitions, city tours, education, research, collections and publications.

Salsa. Mambo. Rumba. Cha-cha-chá. The very names of Latin music genres suggest an irresistible, unmistakable rhythm. And through the decades, these distinctive musical styles have continually—and profoundly—influenced American popular music. Latino musicians helped shape many traditional genres of music in the United States, including jazz, R&B, rock ’n’ roll, and hip hop.

What do Gloria Estefan, Daddy Yankee, and Carlos Santana have in common? They are all successful Hispanic recording artists who are featured in the Smithsonian traveling exhibition American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music.

The exhibition examines the Latin music and musicians of San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, San Antonio and Miami, and how each city formed the artists who came from them.

Learn about and see photos of numerous musicians, musical styles, and the venues that made them popular. Listen to the music, dance to the rhythm and mix your own song at American Sabor.

American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music was created by the EMP Museum and the University of Washington. It was organized for travel by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibition, its national tour, and related programs are made possible by the Ford Motor Company Fund.
