Latin Chamber of Commerce Bicycle Drive

Many children would not classify riding their bikes to school as a luxurious activity.

It is simply something they have to do. But for manybikedrive1 others, the only thing that stands between them and maintaining great attendance at school, is their lack of transportation. For others, a bicycle provides a way to get to and from home after clubs and extra curricular activities. Millions of once well-off families across the country now find themselves in grave financial difficulties and purchasing a bicycle has now become quite the feat. As a result, countless students in Broward county find themselves simply having to make do without a way of transportation.

In December 2009, the Latin Chamber of Commerce recognized this need and in the spirit of giving, donated twenty-five bicycles to ASPIRA. Advisors of the Broward division were asked to select a student from each of their schools that were in need of a bicycle. Twenty-five Aspirantes, each accompanied by parents and siblings, were all invited to the Latin Chamber of Commerce to receive their bicycles and celebrate this generous act with drinks, snacks, a bounce house, and a DJ. When it was time to give away the bicycles a Santa Clause rode into the parking lot in a fire truck to help. Students each took pictures with Santa and their families and were able to thank the Latin Chamber of Commerce for themselves.

In the end, students went home with giant smiles and ASPIRA was honored to be a part of helping twenty-five families across the county.
