YLD Celebrates Black History Month at the North Miami Public Library

YLD club students from North Miami Senior High School and ASPIRA Youth Leadership Charter School North paid tribute to many historical Black figures at the North Miami Public Library's annual Black History Month Showcase on February 24, 2010.

In a room filled beyond capacity, YLD student Katherine Beltres from NMSH boldly proclaimed her definition of peace in an original piece "Peaceful Activity" that opened the scene for the evening. Netsy Delva and Woodleen Antoine-Felix used their gift of dance to dramatize the lyrical notions of Duke Ellington's 1920s hit "Don't Get Around Much Anymore". Woodleen also was an orator of Langston Hughes Poem "A Dream Deferred". Wesly Caceres and Jennifer Hulse introduced the history of "Rosa Parks" and "A Raisin in the Sun".

A host of other YLD students from the two schools were in attendance for support of their fellow ASPIRAantes as well as gaining knowledge of historical contributors to today's society.
